Melbourne – Ho Chi Minh city – Paris – Rennes – Bain de Bretagne… and that was the first 36 hours! It takes a while to travel from Australia to Europe and this trip was extended by a 6 hour wait for my connection to Paris in Ho Chi Minh city airport. Sometimes the cheapest flight is not the best way to fly!
Each year I take an international trip and every two or three years I visit Europe to visit my family and that of my husband in England and France. This year we travelled via Vietnam on Vietnam Airlines to Paris and then on to the centre of Brittany in France. A beautiful week was spent in the sun of western France (the ‘nose’of France) before heading off to a cruise from Kiel in Germany to Oslo and back. See www.ozdezine.com for a brief overview of our cruise.
From Kiel, we took the train to Berlin and what a city that is! Visit www.berlin.de for more info on the amazing history (good and bad) the culture, the wonderful architecture. A city that has been hidden away and is now – with a bigger injection of cash – under restoration and is coming back to life particularly in E Berlin. Recommended.
From Berlin, I took a long train ride (8 hours) to Amsterdam to visit friends and arrived to cold wind and pouring rain but an otherwise warm welcome. Amsterdam is a great city and in fact I’m just outside it in Huizen. Plenty of history here with fortified cities and fairy tale castles built before the 12th century with wonderous moats and unscaleable turrets! Great stuff! imagine the stories those walls could tell if they could talk!
From here I travel to London, my home town to which I always enjoy returning and which I miss when I’m away though I’ve lived away from England for over 20 years. In fact, when I’m feeling really homesick, I have nightly dreams of travelling around on the top deck of a red ‘double decker’ bus. Travels are full of dreams even if you’re dreaming you’re travelling. Next stop London.
